But here’s the truth:

• Polarized lenses are designed to cut glare from reflective surfaces like water, sand, or snow. Perfect for a ski trip or a beach day – but not for everyday use. For children under 5, constant use of polarized lenses can actually reduce the visual stimulation that’s important for healthy eye development.
  
• Everyday BlueBlock UV420 lenses are made for daily wear. They block both UV and harmful HEV blue light – something very few children’s sunglasses on the market actually do. This gives all-day protection without interfering with how young eyes grow.
  
• Active Polarized UV400 lenses are for those special bright conditions where light intensity can be several times stronger. Why? Because reflective surfaces don’t just add light – they bounce the sun back into the eyes from multiple angles, multiplying the amount of harmful rays.

UV400 means the lenses block 100% of UVA and UVB rays up to 400 nanometers (nm). UVA (315–400 nm) penetrates deep into the eye and accelerates aging of ocular tissues, while UVB (280–315 nm) carries more energy and can cause immediate cell damage. Think of UV400 like sunscreen with SPF 30 – it protects against the worst of the rays, but not everything.

Our Everyday lenses go further, blocking up to 420 nm. This extra 20 nm filters high-energy visible (HEV) blue light – around 400–420 nm – which penetrates even deeper into the retina than UVA. Research links HEV to long-term stress and potential damage to the eye. Very few children’s sunglasses on the market filter this.

It’s like upgrading from SPF 30 to SPF 50 – a stronger barrier for extra-sensitive eyes.

Polarized lenses contain a special filter that blocks horizontally reflected light. This is crucial in environments like water, snow, and sand, where sunlight doesn’t just come from above but also bounces back into the eyes from multiple directions. In these conditions, children are exposed to double or triple the intensity of harmful light.

But here’s the catch: under age 5, kids’ eyes are still developing. They need natural light to train their visual system. Wearing polarized lenses every day can reduce important visual stimulation. It’s like using a heavy zinc sunblock all year round – great at the beach, but unnecessary (and even counterproductive) for daily life.

Our lenses are crafted from optical class 1 polycarbonate – the highest grade for clarity and safety. Unlike ordinary plastics, polycarbonate is impact-resistant (it won’t shatter if dropped or bent) and distortion-free. They’re also coated with anti-scratch (tougher than regular plastic, though not indestructible) and anti-fog (so kids can play without misted vision).

Ultra-soft silicone nose pads keep the glasses comfortable even after hours of wear.
